Our School’s Catering Service
The school’s new catering service is provided by Taylor Shaw, caterer of choice for thousands of primary pupils across the UK.
Our menu is appetising, nutritious, balanced, and designed to encourage children to enjoy food, learn, play, and grow. Lunch is an integral part of the school day and something all children should look forward to. Taylor Shaw’s dedicated catering team ensures the dining hall is a welcoming and happy place for your child.
Our menus meet the Government’s School Food Standards and the bronze Food for Life standards.
- All items on our menu are freshly cooked by our catering team in your school kitchens to ensure we’re always offering fresh and nutritious food whilst minimising salt and sugar in recipes.
- No undesirable additives or artificial trans fats are used
- Our menus provide for all dietary and cultural requirements
- Our suppliers adhere to all appropriate food safety standards
- Our catering team is supported with skills training in fresh produce
Taylor Shaw’s dedicated dietitians work with our Chef teams to ensure our menus are nutritionally sound, shaping recipes to ensure they meet the School Food Standards and standards set by Public Health England.
Our Menus
Our diverse menus include a wide variety of options to suit all tastes and are based on feedback from pupils, staff, the catering team, parents and guardians. We run a three-week menu cycle that changes twice a year.
Managing Allergies & Other Medical Diets
Your child’s health and safety will always be of the utmost importance to us, and having accurate information about dietary needs and allergies is crucial for us to prepare and serve meals that meet their requirements
Taylor Shaw’s dietitians and catering team work together and follow a robust process, so you can feel reassured that whenever safely possible, an alternative menu will be provided. All the teams receive allergy training annually, and whenever there’s an update to allergen laws.

Nursery School Meals
Please note that school meals for children attending our Nursery are chargeable.
From September 2026, the cost of a Nursery school dinner is £3.50 per day.
This charge applies to Nursery children who have a school dinner.
Universal Infant Free School Meals & Free School Meals
If your child is in Reception, Year 1 or Year 2 (under the government’s Universal Infant Free School Meals (UISFM) Scheme) they are entitled to a healthy meal paid for by the Local Authority.
From Year 3 to Year 6 children in years 3 to 6 are also entitled to a free school meal paid for by the Mayor of London.

Free School Meals & Pupil Premium Explained
All children at Perrymount Primary School from Reception to Year 6 can enjoy a free, healthy school lunch every school day.
However, did you know that registering for benefits-related Free School Meals could also unlock additional support for your child and extra funding for our school?
Even if your child already receives a free school lunch, we encourage all families receiving qualifying benefits to check their eligibility.
What’s the difference between Universal Free School Meals and benefits-related Free School Meals?
Universal Free School Meals
All children in Reception, Year 1 and Year 2 are entitled to free school meals through the Government’s Universal Infant Free School Meals scheme.
Children in Years 3 to 6 also receive free school meals through funding provided by the Mayor of London. This funding is currently confirmed until summer 2028.
These meals are available regardless of your household income.
Benefits-related Free School Meals
Families receiving certain benefits can register for benefits-related Free School Meals, even if their child already receives a free lunch.
From September 2026, all children from households receiving Universal Credit can qualify for benefits-related Free School Meals, regardless of household earnings.
Depending on your family’s circumstances, registration may enable Perrymount to receive extra funding through the Pupil Premium.
What is Pupil Premium?
Pupil Premium is additional government funding provided to schools to help improve educational opportunities and outcomes for children facing disadvantage.
At Perrymount, this funding helps us provide additional opportunities and support so that every child can achieve their full potential.
Pupil Premium funding can support:
- Extra teaching and targeted learning support
- Additional help with reading, writing and mathematics
- Educational visits and enrichment activities
- Resources and equipment to support learning
- Pastoral care, emotional wellbeing and inclusion
- Support to improve attendance and engagement
Pupil Premium is paid directly to the school and is used to support eligible pupils’ education. It is not a cash payment to parents.
Important: Not every child receiving a free school meal automatically attracts Pupil Premium funding. Eligibility for this additional funding depends on the Government’s targeted criteria.
Who is eligible?
From the 2026–2027 academic year, there are two main categories of benefits-related Free School Meals.
1. Targeted Free School Meals
Children may qualify if their household receives Universal Credit and has annual earned income of £7,400 or less.
Children may also qualify through certain other benefits or circumstances, including:
- Income-related Employment and Support Allowance (ESA)
- Support under Part VI of the Immigration and Asylum Act 1999
- The Guarantee Credit element of Pension Credit
- Certain circumstances involving families with no recourse to public funds
Children meeting the targeted eligibility criteria can attract Pupil Premium funding for their school and may qualify for other additional support.
2. Expanded Free School Meals
From September 2026, children in households receiving Universal Credit are entitled to benefits-related Free School Meals regardless of household earnings.
However, children who qualify only under the expanded criteria do not automatically attract Pupil Premium funding or qualify for every additional support scheme.
If you receive Universal Credit, please apply or check your eligibility, even if your child already receives a free school lunch.
What other support could my child receive?
Families who qualify under the targeted Free School Meals criteria may also be able to access additional help, including the Holiday Activities and Food (HAF) Programme.
The HAF Programme provides eligible children with opportunities to enjoy activities and nutritious meals during certain school holidays.
Other support may be available depending on your family’s circumstances and current council schemes.

Will anyone know that my child receives Free School Meals?
No. We treat information about families’ circumstances sensitively and confidentially.
All primary school children at Perrymount receive free school lunches, and children registered for benefits-related Free School Meals are not identified to other pupils.
We want every family to feel comfortable asking for help and accessing the support available to them.
